STCC PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES

October 9, 2002

Location: 13/114

Call to Order: 1:37 PM

Secretary's Report, Lynn Kleindienst
Acceptance of minutes of September 18, 2002. Motion to accept; Marcia Blanchette and Carol Dupont. Passed.

Treasurer's Report, Ken Czuchra
No report since last report distributed only two weeks ago.

Vice President, Roberta Albano
Working with building Reps for a corrected list of their contacts. Roberta would like all Reps to return the corrected list to her as soon as possible. Once corrected, the list and contacts will be posted on the website.

Roberta also spoke about the Legislative breakfast to be held here on campus October 25, 2002. Roberta will be sending information out to the members. We are hoping for a great turnout.

President, Carol Mathison
E-mail will be forthcoming shortly to Professional Staff for representation on the UPPC - (Unit Personnel Practices Committee). If more than one member is interested in the position than an election will be held.

Carol also talked about the asbestos removal in building 20. All academic departments will be staying in Building 20 but will be moved to other locations in the building. Room sizes will probably be smaller but will be within state guidelines and not grievable. Bookstore and Student Activities will probably move to other locations on campus.

MCCC Director, Sandy Cutler
The Board of Directors and the MCCC have endorsed Shannon O'Brien and Gabrieli in the Governor's race.

There will be continued support of the AFSME members by MCCC.

Sandy spoke on behalf of the formation of the MCCC Political Action Committee (PAC). PAC is a separate entity from the Union. There are over 300 PAC's in the state and the Firefighters have the biggest PAC.

PAC has no money and relies on donations. The Executive Committee voted to recommend to the membership that a $200.00 donation be sent to PAC. The vote was put forth to members and passed unanimously. Private donations from members can also be made. Contact Sandy and she will give you the address.

There will be a Campaign party on October 24, 2002 in Auburn for the endorsed Gubernatorial candidates. Candidate Gabrieli will be there. Sandy encouraged members to attend and to bring family, friends and spouses so STCC can be heard and seen.

In order to allow PAC to utilize space in the MCCC newsletter, the MCCC newspapers will now be delivered to members at their homes instead of in-house mail.

Sandy received an e-mail from someone in the MCCC Leadership about a "rumor" that Mitt Romney, if elected, is proposing to close Mass Bay and Berkshire Community Colleges.

Grievance Officer, Maureen Bourbeau
Interpretation of Article 14.05 B regarding SCE salary step scales. There is a step raise for every 5 courses taught, i.e. beginning with the sixth course and again with the 11th course. Advancement to Step 4 requires 8 years of seniority - see Article 10.04, 10.05 and 10.06 for definition of seniority.
